August 8 is International Cat Day. And when you consider that cats are one of the most beloved pets in the world, it's no surprise that they got their own holiday!

Although statistically more men own cats than women (yes, really), women with a preference for cats are often labeled 'cat lady'. That has a bit of a dusty image, but we have to get rid of that because cat ladies just understand that cats are simply awesome! And for the following reasons:

Reason 1 - They are too cute

It's almost impossible not to melt away at the sight of such a fluffy creature. With fluffy hair that you want to disappear into and eyes that enchant you. Not to mention the sweet sounds they make. From little meows to passionate grunts when they lie on your lap. Just don't do it!

Reason 2 - They are nice and stubborn

Whatever you think of cats, they are certainly stubborn. While dogs will do anything to please their owner, cats certainly do not. In fact, cats are more likely to expect you to please them. This means that they often start meowing at half past six in the morning because they are getting hungry and then they think you should get up and arrange food (can I also get someone to do that for me on command?). And they only sit on your lap when they feel like it. But hey, that stubborn behavior is what makes them so much fun, right?!

Reason 3 - They provide entertainment

Admit it, how many hours have you spent watching cat videos on YouTube? It is hilarious to see how cats squeeze into the smallest boxes or how they chase even the largest dog out of their basket and then go to sleep themselves. And I haven't even mentioned all the videos with kittens that are so cute they almost make your heart explode. You can never have enough cat videos!

Now I hear you thinking: are cats just great?

No, they can certainly be a pain in the ass if they come and lie on your keyboard while you are busy working, or if they pee in the laundry basket with clean laundry. But one sight of your furry roommate will make even Puss in Boots pale and you'll forget it all.
