Our country is small, yet it has the highest museum density in the world. In all major cities you will find a diversity of museums. But of course there are also a lot of museums in the smaller towns.

Visiting museums online

Unfortunately, visiting museums is not possible at the moment, but what is possible is visiting a museum online. How nice is that. I came face to face with Van Gogh's world-famous 'Almond Blossom' and his self-portrait also passed by in the Van Gogh Museum .

In the Rijksmuseum , children can play the key challenge by searching online in the museum for keys that can be found with certain paintings. Also very nice to play as an adult, I know from experience. And the story behind the Night Watch is now completely clear to me. You actually learn more things about a painting online than when you visit a museum. In the museum it is the experience of being able to view a painting up close, which feels different online, but I think it is very nice solved by the museums. I have never visited so many museums in one year.

The Night Watch with Rembrandt on it

Did you know…

  • Rembrandt van Rijn painted himself on the Night Watch? Hard evidence of this has ever been provided, but people agree. In the back left, between the man with the feathers on his hat and the man with the helmet, Rembrandt has painted himself with the beret on his head.

  • Vincent van Gogh only became world famous after his death and that was due to his sister-in-law Jo. Van Gogh only sold one painting when he was alive. When Vincent's brother, Theo, died, 28-year-old Jo was left behind with their son and she devoted herself to selling Vincent's paintings and it went so well that he soon became world famous.

  • The Victory Boogie Woogie was actually unfinished. When friends come over, he says a few times that it's almost finished, but then turns everything around again. Only a blue block to the right of the center does not change. When Mondrian becomes ill, he covers a lot of squares again with a different color tape and paints over some parts. Mondrian dies before he can finish it.

street art

If it's allowed again later, I will definitely visit a number of museums, because the online tours have made me enthusiastic. What you should definitely do is view the beautiful street art that you encounter in many cities. Graffiti is therefore not just indiscriminately daubing on walls, but you sometimes come across the most beautiful works of art. In The Hague, for example, boring transformer houses have been converted into real eye-catchers and in Brussels you have a street art route and you will be amazed at what you see.
