Back to school and/or work... HOW? Are you someone who prefers to press 'snooze' a few times before getting out of bed in the morning? Do you have to rush every morning to be on time for your work call? And would you like to get out of bed with a little more energy in the early morning? With these 5 tips, you can become a morning person – even if you are not an early bird.
Tip 1 - Get to bed earlier
It's going to be quite difficult to be beaming next to your bed at seven o'clock if you only got under the sheets at three o'clock the night before. Becoming a morning person starts with going to bed on time . On average you need about 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Calculate approximately what time you should be in bed if you want to get up at the desired time. Then you will probably get out of bed less tired in the morning.
It may not be so much about getting up early, but more about going to bed early. That's how I experienced it myself when I went from night owl to early bird.
Tip 2 - Start the day quietly
The great thing about getting up early is that you don't have to do everything right away. If you roll out of bed ten minutes before work time, you immediately go into stress mode with full inboxes, deadlines and people who need something from you. If you get up at least an hour before the whole rat race starts, you have time to wake up calmly .
For example, you can take an extensive shower (this lovely banana shampoo makes my showers even better!). Or do some early morning yoga exercises. For example, you can find great lessons for morning pilates or special morning meditations on YouTube. With a cheerful yoga shirt (I love this Spiffy active shirt from the shop!) you can make it even more fun for yourself.
Extra tip: leave your phone off for half an hour after getting up and don't forget to turn off your WiFi and internet at night. Then you won't be woken up by enthusiastic colleagues who are clearly early birds and start texting at six o'clock.
Tip 3 - Snoozing is letting go
As incredibly tempting as it is, forget the snooze button. Don't use it anymore. Snoozing doesn't make you more rested than getting out of bed straight away. You were already taken out of your sleep rhythm when your alarm went off for the first time. After that you won't really fall asleep anymore. Every time your alarm goes off again, you interrupt your sleep rhythm again. That doesn't exactly make you wake up feeling better . Rather, it causes even more unrest.
So teach yourself to get out of bed in one go. A handy trick for this is to simply make snoozing impossible by putting your phone or alarm clock out of reach . Then you have to get out of bed to quiet your alarm clock. And if you're already standing next to your bed, you might as well start the day right away. However?
Tip 4 - Start the morning with a nice prospect
Now that you no longer have to immediately appear on some call from your bed with your sleepy head, you have time for more fun things. Always tell yourself something fun when you go to bed, so that you have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. This could, for example, be an extra delicious breakfast, a YouTube video that you want to watch or reading a few pages from a book. If you can immediately think of that prospect when you get up in the morning, it will be more pleasant to get out of bed.
For me personally, breakfast is a reason in itself to get out of bed. I love festive breakfasts and like to try tasty recipes from the book All Day Breakfast . The quote “Sleep is like a time machine to breakfast” certainly applies to me.
Tip 5 - Prepare in advance in the evening
If you prepare for the morning the night before, you don't have to do everything the next morning. A nice idea!
For example, prepare your outfit for the day, make sure your bag is already packed or put delicious overnight oats in the refrigerator. This saves you time the next morning, so you don't get caught up in the rat race of household chores immediately after getting up, but you actually have time for a nice morning ritual and a good breakfast.
Speaking of morning rituals and being a morning person: are you familiar with the book Miracle Morning ? If you weren't yet convinced that you can get a lot done in the morning, this book is proof. An ideal book to read – you can already feel it coming – early in the morning.
